returns a broken man If you follow my blog and or reviews, you know that I tend to read paranormal, urban fantasy, hockey romances, and rock romances Yes, it is kind of a strange combination Anyway, I started reading the Barriers Series because the first book fell in the hockey romance category I Broken Barriers Barriers 4 by Sara Shirley Drew Daley walks away from the love of his life, Courtney glad I continued this series If I were to have looked at this book as a standalone, I probably would have passed it up, which would have been unfortunate because I loved this book Sara Shirley does such a tremendous job with her character development My heart completely goes out to all of her characters They are all so believable, facing real life issues None of them are perfect, but that is what makes them charming We met Drew in Josh Sam s story Hidden Barriers Barriers 2 Drew is Sam s younger brother who fell in love with Josh s little sister Courtney Page, who we met in Frozen Barriers Barriers 1 The plot is noteworthy The ending was incredible I don t want to give anything away, so I m not going to say much except Drew suffers from PTSD when he gets back from the war, Courtney married someone else, and he meets Cole Porter, the women who could potentially heal his broken heart Let me just say, wow You could probably read this book as a standalone, but I recommend that you read the rest of the series first There are things that happen, especially in book two, that are important to this story If you have already read books in the Barriers series, you will definitely want to read this novel If you haven t tried this series and enjoy contemporary romances with genuine characters you will want to pick up this series Sara Shirley is a gifted writer I could not put this book down, flying through it in a day Complimentary copy provided in exchange for an honest review Drew s barriers are broken. They were broken the day he walked away from Courtney, the BarriersI had to know about Sam s older brother Drew He was working withe her dad at the law firm Sam kept saying Drew had a thing for Josh s sister Courtney I fell in love with Courtney in book oneFrozen BarriersCourtney is Josh and Jeremy s younger, adorable, caring, beautiful younger sister She s always there for her brothers and at times you d forget she s younger then them both I was stoked to find out this was their story.Drew and Courtney were only supposed to be a friends with benefits But, anybody that s ever done that knows one of them always catches feelings Drew had caught feelings He fell in love with Courtney but couldn t say the words When he on tour with the Marines he came back to find Courtney engaged Before he left again he gave her a letter pouring his heart out to Courtney.Drew was devastated to find out Courtney went through with getting married Now, that he s back for good Drew doesn t know where to start or what to do Not only is his heart broken from Courtney getting married And, moving on from her is impossible Courtney is his sister Sam sister in law That isn t Drew s only problem He s out of the Marine s But, Drew is suffering from PTSD Between the nightmares, the cold sweats and lets not talk about touching him Drew makes the decision to go to his parents lake house for the summer to regroup Drew must figure out what s next for him How is he going to move on from Courtney when wherever he looks she s there He must figure out what he s going to do for a job His biggest thing to figure out His PTSD and what how to calm it and move forward While Drew is at the lake house he keeps trying to figure everything out When Drew is out in town he becomes friends with Everett who also served in the Marines He meets Cole who owns a bakery and is a photographer Cole gets him to talk to Marty who also was in the service Drew meeting Everett and ESP Marty was the best thing for Drew Talking to them was probably the best thing for Drew.Drew was ready to move on from Courtney Cole was the perfect person for Drew Both Drew and Cole were broken Drew had lost Courtney Cole too had lost someone bc of the service and he didn t fight for her Cole brought out the best in Drew They had an instant connection And, not just a physical one Their emotional one was strong Both were fighting their own head and heart while trying to help the other one heal There was so many times these 2 had me hysterically laughing Cole was a very strong, compassionate, caring women She def didn t take crap from anybody Cole had such a hard year But, when she looks at Drew everything changes She can see the good in Drew even if he doesn t see it himself Cole isn t afraid to make Drew work for it at times too Which usually had me hysterical.I loved seeing past characters in this book Drew and Josh had such an awesome relationship Josh seemed to always know what to say and not say at the right time Sam I still love Sam One of my fav parts is Josh and Sam son After one afternoon with Uncle Drew and he s screaming boobies 24 7 Then, listening to Sam going off is evenhysterical I really loved everything about this book Except the end Man, when I tell you I hadn t hated an ending to a book in SO SO long And, I didn t hate it because it ended with Drew not getting a HEA or not doing what I hoped or with the person I hoped I hated it because it made no sense to me I mean it was going great and then bam It was different and completely out of left field I am not going to tell you what happened because that would be cruel I will say it wasn t explained Why did it happen What is going on to make it better How is everyone around involved dealing with it Will it get better None of it was explained At all I finished and was literally left dumb founded But, Sara handled the PTSD brilliantly She really did her homework on it and you can tell I m really upset this is the last book in the series It was an awesome and beautiful series I will miss the characters in it I can t wait to what Sara writes next Drew Daley walks away from the love of his life, Courtney Page, when his orders with the Marine Corps took him to Afghanistan Eighteen messed up in the head now LOL I m really at a loss as to how to even write a review This was the first book I read from this author so maybe I should go read the other book in the series since this is can find his place in world and just simply go back to his old life His old self Until one day when he meets Cole, a girl that might help him mend his broker heart and simply move on from his past love and from the nightmares that still haunts him.Sara created such an amazing story here In all her books she is touching your heart and leaves you with so many emotions that you can barely stop crying, stop smiling I loved this book And you may try to read it as standalone, but I highly recommend the whole series Is that good.Amazing 5 stars 4 This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers To view it, click here All a farceThis is the third and worst book in the trilogy I kept waiting for it to get better, but that never happened Then to find out that it was all a dream What a waste of time Sara Shirley should have stopped at her second book. Drew s story Dreams can heal your soul It was just supposed to be a friends with benefits type of fling Feelings were never supposed to get in the way Drew Daley never thought Courtney Page would be the one to change all thatHe watched her walk away to pursue her own dreams while Drew s Marine Corps orders sent him packing for a tour of duty in Afghanistan Something told him to never let her go to fight for her and his countryCan a decision from years ago make all the difference in one s future Time has passed People have changed Lives have gone in different directions Drew returns broken and torn after nearly eighteen months overseas and everything isn t what it was when he left Life after deployment isn t nearly as easy to fit into as he thought Until new friends and familiar faces enter his life and everything changesWhen his mind is trying to piece together all the puzzles surrounding his life, Cole Porter might just be the one to heal his broken heart and guide him in the right direction However something about Cole is vaguely familiar to Drew Despite what his head tells him he begins to get closer to herWill Drew finally be able to let his heart heal and move on Sometimes you have to face your dreams and fears all at once in order to recover Otherwise you may never heal the broken pieces inside of you I was blown away by this book series I purchased four books Frozen Barriers, Hidden Barriers, Burning Barriers, and Broken Barriers The books were all for free so I thought why not I didn t anticipate a great read as lately it seems a lot of the free reads are smut filled, thrown together and poorly written books However I have found some good authors by the free book Boy, I was in for a surprise I wasn t anticipating being blown away with this book Boy, I was in for a surprise I wasn t anticipating being blown away with this refreshing read Each book is a well written and complete story with no cliffhanger each book is a standalone It is told from alternating POVs In my opinion, this made the story so muchcomplete seeing it from both sides You get to see and feel what each one is thinking in the same situations The words seemed to flow effortlessly and it was so easy to feel the emotion of these two people coming off the pages The characters and scenes are descriptive enough that you feel you are there experiencing it right along with them The erotica was just the right amount without being over the top It is not a smut filled romance it has just the right amount mixed in to compliment the story There are plenty of heartbreaking and dark moments with a mix of happiness and fun Each book plays with your different emotions that will make you angry, laugh, smile, and cry The way that she wrote each story keeps you connected and not wanting to put the book down When you get done, you are eager to start the next one If you are looking for a great read with the perfect amount of sex mixed in, then you need to read willing to cut his ties with Courtney to pursue a relationship Is Cole the one who can mend his broken heart Broken Barriers is a wonderfully written novel about the realities of returning home from deployment and starting over It is about the struggles of finding the love you were meant to have and holding on to that person no matter what I cannot say how much I love The Barriers Series by Sara Shirley In Broken Barriers, Sara keeps her writing style the same by infusing well developed primary characters with great supportive secondary characters Readers will fall in love with Everett and Marty For those who are fans of the series, there are cameos from the other books, too Even though this is the last installment in the series, I can t wait to see what Sara has lined up next Another job well done, Sara
